Am thinking about time travel

…..and portals.  How you get from one timezone to the next.  A police call-box, a wardrobe, the bed in Charlotte Sometimes, under the mailbox in When You Reach Me, cellar-door.I think I just gave myself a great excuse to re-watch Donnie Darko …..

Do you dare to cut your hair short?

My heroine, Sadie Nathanson, is all about the hair.  She loves trying out new styles and colours.  This is ironic really as I have had approximately the same hairstyle since about 1987 and I cut my hair myself and am absolutely terrified of visiting the hairdresser.  I can trace this back to the trauma of having my haircut against my will when I started at a new school.  I had longish curly hair and Mum told the hairdresser to crop it short.  When I look at the photos now I can see it was a cute pixie cut but at the time I hated it.  I just came across this in Glamour Magazine;

and it totally reminded me how great short hair can be.
I just wish I was braver!

Very excited to see my two book covers side by side - can’t wait to share the new Sadie book - 1st July!

Sadie: Book 2

Wow!  Have just finished editing the sequel to ‘Dads, Geeks and Blue-Haired Freaks’.

Am really excited about Sadie’s newest outing.  There’s going to be some surprises in store for EVERYONE.  That is all I’m saying.  I’ll pop the cover up as soon as I get it.

Oh - and btw it’s called ‘Scissors, Sisters and Manic Panics’.

I loved My Fair Lady at the Crucible

Just went to see this

at the Crucible in Sheffield.  Fantastic.  If it goes on tour; get a ticket!

My Fair Lady

Watch this: Growing Up Poor - Girls

Watch this documentary on BBC3.

These girls are all very different and growing up in hugely difficult circumstances.   Amber at least has her mother’s support but Bridie and Shelby are cut adrift too young in a very harsh world.

I hope they all get to a better place very soon.

Hope everyone has had good Christmases and is starting the New Year with a whole string of self-improving resolutions!

No?

Me neither.

But I did get a nice review in The Star so that’s got 2013 off to a great start!

Introducing my sister’s dog Harvey - I just had to put this up because he is so damn cute (and that’s coming from a cat person) and he also lives in a children’s bookshop so he’s a big cheese in publishing
